It’s been a few days after the closing of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2022 Annual Meeting and I’m still in awe of the experience. What an amazing way to gather together as an oncology community, face-to-face after two long years and celebrate our leadership in the fight against this disease. During ASCO, I joined Arsalan Arif, co-founder of Endpoints News, for a conversation about highlights from the meeting and improving health equity.
We discussed how AstraZeneca is leading the revolution in oncology, disrupting the breast cancer treatment paradigm to bring hope to more people living with this disease. Our data at ASCO this year demonstrated our unwavering resolve to redefine the way people with cancer are diagnosed and treated. (Personally, I’ll never forget the standing ovation we received at the plenary session after presenting the historic results from the DESTINY-Breast04 trial. I shared with Arsalan how we’re expanding into new indications and exploring novel combinations to achieve the full potential of our medicines for people with high unmet need.
We also talked about how the industry should approach healthy equity, inspired by this year’s ASCO theme, Advancing Equitable Cancer Care Through Innovation. Achieving meaningful results requires multidisciplinary collaboration, particularly with community-based organizations, to ensure we are reaching people with cancer, where they are. At AstraZeneca, our aim is to transform the patient experience for all who can benefit from our therapies and remove barriers to early detection and precision medicine to achieve the best possible health outcomes.
Medical meetings like ASCO are a testament to what can be achieved when the best minds come together on behalf of the patients we serve.
