Online community resource hosted by fitness guru, Terri Walsh, invites adult osteoarthritis sufferers to participate in a 90-day challenge
AstraZeneca, a leading biopharmaceutical company, and Olympian Dorothy Hamill launched a new campaign today – Get Moving America – to inspire adults with OA to participate in moderate physical activities as one way of helping reduce chronic stiffness and pain associated with osteoarthritis (OA).
OA is a painful joint disease that can limit daily physical activities among those affected with the joint disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 27 million Americans over 251 suffer from OA, and the joint disease will affect 1-in-2 Americans in their lifetime.1 In spite of the limitations it places on some physical activity, being moderately active is one method in helping to reduce the arthritic symptoms of OA.1 This is the driving force behind the Get Moving America campaign.
Hamill, a World Champion Olympic gold medalist and Dancing with the Stars alum, partnered with AstraZeneca to generate awareness of this important issue. As an OA sufferer for more than a decade, Hamill’s mission with the campaign is to inspire those living with OA to “get moving” as a way to help manage their pain.
Hamill also shares her experiences – both challenges and victories – living with OA, and offers tips for others to help manage their pain.
“As someone who has been affected by osteoarthritis for more than 10 years, I know how debilitating the joint disease can be,” said Hamill. “However, I haven’t let that slow me down – I continue to exercise and stay active, which helps reduce daily pain. I’m excited to lead the Get Moving America initiative to let men and women know that with small lifestyle changes, including proper medication and physical activity, they can help manage their osteoarthritis pain.”
The Get Moving America campaign is a national initiative that encourages men and women to become more active to help reduce chronic stiffness and pain associated with osteoarthritis (OA). Consumers can share their progress and experiences, as well as challenge and motivate others, on the Facebook page (facebook.com/getmovingamerica) and through other social media platforms.
Consumers can share their progress and experiences as well as challenge and motivate others on the Get Moving America Facebook page and through a variety of social media channels, including Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube and Instagram.
