Theresa Uchytil-Etler accepted a national Jefferson Award for Public Service on Wednesday, June 19 in Washington, D.C. for her dedication to volunteerism. The Pharmaceutical Sales Specialist from Shawnee, Kan., represented AstraZeneca at the national award ceremony where she received the National award for Greatest Public Service by an Employee.
Theresa was selected as Grand Winner from the ten employees who received AZ Jefferson Awards on Wednesday June 5, and went on to Washington, D.C. where she won the national award out of 21 nominees from different companies across the country.
Theresa’s commitment to service started at a young age. Born without a left hand, Theresa saw this disability as a unique opportunity to make a difference. Those aspirations led her to earn the title of Miss Iowa which gave her the chance to serve as the national spokesperson for the Shriners Hospital for Children, the organization that shaped her life as a child. Theresa visited all 22 North American Shriners Hospitals which proved to be one of the most rewarding experiences of her life.
Over the past ten years, Theresa has served tirelessly with the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri (JLKCMO) in a number of different roles. In 2010, she served as the JLKCMO’s New Member Education Chair and initiated the “Classroom Adoption Program” as part of the League’s five-year commitment to children’s nutrition and fitness. In 2011, Theresa was appointed to lead the Membership Development Special Committe with the task of enhancing the overall member experience while supporting the League’s mission of promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Today, Theresa sits on the JLKCMO Board of Directors as the Director of Training, coaches baton-twirling students, volunteers for the Iowa State University Alumni Association’s Club of Kansas City, and champions activities with the Kansas City AstraZeneca Employee Network Group.
Congratulations, Theresa, on the outstanding achievement and thank you for promoting AstraZeneca’s dedication to improving the communities in which we live and work.
