The 2013 National Senior Games wrapped up in Cleveland, Ohio on August 1 after two weeks of inspiring feats of endurance and strength from athletes over the age of 50.
AstraZeneca was represented by eight incredible athletes, their talents ranging in sports from badminton to archery. Combined, AZ athletes brought home six gold medals, three silver medals and many more top honors.
Zhiping You, a statistical scientist in Innovative Medicines played over 44 badminton games over a 3-day period and won two gold medals and one silver medal. Katherine Karageorges-Sharp, Executive Sales Specialist, competed in six swimming events from freestyle to butterfly and scored four gold medals and two silver medals. Edna Hecht, strategy and portfolio manager in Operations IT, finished in first place in the 400M track and field competition.

John McCarthy, Vice President for Commercial Operations and Global Commercial Excellence at AstraZeneca kicked off the National Senior Games by welcoming a crowd of over 10,000 athletes. Later in the Games, Rose Soltz, Commercial Business Director, shared her thoughts on the dedication of the athletes at the Celebration of Athletes event.
