- Why is AstraZeneca going public with its contributions?
- AstraZeneca has a strong heritage of discovering and delivering medicines designed to improve the health of patients around the world managing a variety of medical conditions. While drug discovery and delivery is what we do, we also know that how we do business is important to the many people whose lives we touch, including patients, physicians, employees, investors and the communities around us. Maintaining the trust of those audiences is very important to us.

- How does AstraZeneca make contribution funding decisions?
Contributions are evaluated against an initial set of factors that include available funding resources, the scope of the project being funded, its impact on patient health, and its alignment to our patient health priorities. While we support general health initiatives, we believe we can make the biggest impact by focusing our efforts in areas in which we have the greatest expertise including, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, infectious disease, mental illness, and respiratory illness.
- How can nonprofit organizations apply for funding?
Organizations can request a contribution on our Web site by filling out an application for a contribution. Priority is given to requests that focus on diseases or conditions relevant to the therapeutic areas where AstraZeneca has expertise and where we can make a meaningful difference to the health of patients in local communities. Having a positive impact on a community’s health is a core decisive factor for the company’s charitable giving and community support.
- What is AstraZeneca’s approval process for contributions?
Non-profit organizations must have a 501c tax-exempt status and be in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) before they can be approved for funding. Internally, we have a multi-tiered review and approval process, depending on the complexity of the request.
