AstraZeneca wins 2009 EPA Mid-Atlantic Region Environmental Achievement Award

September 16, 2009 – Wilmington, DE – AstraZeneca (NYSE:AZN) received an Environmental Achievement Award today from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Mid-Atlantic Region for its commitment to enhance and protect the environment.
The Mid-Atlantic Environmental Achievement Awards recognize groups, agencies, individuals and businesses that make extraordinary contributions to improving the environment in the Mid-Atlantic Region, which includes Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. The EPA presented this second annual award to ten winners today at the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia.
AstraZeneca manages its environmental footprint through a number of energy efficiency strategies, including energy management, waste minimization, energy-efficient building design, water conservation, green landscaping and environmentally conscious travel.

AstraZeneca’s commitment to the environment has achieved the following:
- Company supply sites in Westborough, Massachusetts and Newark, Delaware were among the first pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities to receive Energy Star certification
- Two company buildings in Wilmington, Delaware were awarded LEED Gold certification
- Both the Wilmington, Delaware and Waltham, Massachusetts sites were awarded as EPA Best Workplaces for Commuters
- Purchase of renewable energy credits in the form of wind energy has made AstraZeneca an EPA Green Power Partnership Partner
